14th Meeting of the Resistance Panel on Plant Protection Products

Rothamsted Research Centre, Harpenden (GB), 2019-09-18/19

The Resistance Panel on Plant Protection Products met in Rothamsted Research Centre, Harpenden (GB), on 2019-09-18/19. The Panel meeting was held in conjunction with the 8th International Meeting on Pesticide Resistance (Resistance ’19 ) which took place in the same location on 2019-09-16/18.

The Panel continued the discussions about the development of an EPPO Database on resistance cases. The aim of this database is to share information among the responsible authorities for registration of plant protection products across the EPPO region and between authorities and the agrochemical companies which apply for registration of their products. A prototype developed by the EPPO Secretariat is now available as a tool for the Panel to report resistance cases. The Panel members identified needs for clarification of a number of database fields and improvements in the database. The changes discussed and agreed will be implemented by the EPPO Secretariat.

A regular topic on the agenda is the update from Panel members on the current and new resistance cases and management strategies in their countries. Country presentations were made by Austria, Belgium, Denmark, France, Germany, Greece, the Netherlands, Norway, Spain, Switzerland, Sweden and the United Kingdom.

Country presentations were followed by information from the Resistance Action Committees (RACs): Mr Genet and Ms Salas informed the Panel about the new developments and recent activities for the Fungicide RAC (FRAC) and for the European and Global Herbicide RAC (EHRAC) respectively. The Insecticide RAC (IRAC) representative was not present at the meeting this year.

The EPPO Panel on Resistance will next meet on 2020-09-16/18 at the EPPO Headquarters in Paris.
