6th Meeting of the Panel on Invasive Alien Species

Montpellier (FR), 2005-05-23/24

The Panel on Invasive Alien Species met in Montpellier on 2005-05-23/24. It finalized the EPPO List of Invasive Alien Plants, which identifies plants that Member countries should evaluate for their status and invasiveness as a matter of priority. Datasheets were prepared for 12 species of the list.

A Phytosanitary Procedure was drafted on Guidelines for the management of invasive alien plants or potentially invasive alien plants which have been intentionally imported. This recommends measures which may be used to limit the risks from the import of such plants.

The Panel also finalized the Pest Risk Analysis for Hydrocotyle ranunculoides and Lysichiton americanus. It prepared the reports of Pest Risk Assessment and Pest Risk Management. Both plants will be proposed to the Working Party to be included in the EPPO Action List. The next Panel meeting will be held in Vienna at the kind invitation of the Austrian NPPO on 2005-10-18/20.
